A one-off session. Your child will be seen by a Speech and Language Therapist, you can discuss your concerns regarding your child's speech, language or communication skills and some initial feedback and advice will be provided to you, based on your child's presentation.

Drop-In Sessions.

Drop-In Sessions are one hour in length.

You will be asked to complete a 'Case Information Form' and bring this with you to the session, to tell us about your concerns and what you hope to gain from the drop-in.

During the session, the Speech and Language Therapist will observe you and your child playing and interacting together. This will provide lots of information regarding your child's speech, language and communication skills and also your interaction style.

The Speech and Language Therapist will also play and interact with your child, to gather further information, as required.
Please note: this is not a formal assessment session - only observations and informal information gathering will take place.

Based on the information gathered, the Speech and Language Therapist will then spend time discussing their findings with you and sharing feedback and advice on ways in which you can begin to support your child at home. This might include: discussing key pieces of advice, modelling specific strategies, providing handouts detailing advice or strategies, information sharing, recommending onward referrals to other services, signposting to other services/information/websites etc.

If recommended by the Speech and Language Therapist, there will then be the opportunity to book in for one additional parent coaching session, to learn more about how best to support your child's progress. This is optional and there is no obligation to access this service following your drop-in session.

You will take away the paperwork which is completed during the session which details the observations made and the feedback and advice provided. It will also detail any recommended next actions. You may be able to use this paperwork as evidence to access other Speech and Language Therapy services.

The Format.

Drop-In Sessions are suitable for parents or carers who have concerns regarding their child's speech, language or communication skills, or for those seeking advice to enable them to help their child to progress at home.

With demand for speech and language therapy services being so high, it can be difficult to access local services, both NHS and independent. See Me Speak Drop-In sessions offer an interim service to help you to understand your child's current profile and to access advice, to enable you to support your child at home.

What if I want more input for my child?

The nature of the drop-in session, is that it is a one-off.

At the end of the drop-in session, if recommended by the Speech and Language Therapist, there will be the opportunity to book in for one additional parent coaching session, to learn more about how best to support your child's progress. This is optional and there is no obligation to access this service following your drop-in session.

If you would like on-going input for your child, it will remain your responsibility to find a local speech and language therapist, with availability. Where possible, See Me Speak will signpost to suitable local therapists, however the availability of the therapists cannot be guaranteed.

N.B Drop-In Sessions cannot be booked repeatedly as a means of accessing on-going input. You may only access one drop-in session, within a four month period.
